Options for suspending social security payments

As a response to the COVID-19 crisis, businesses can now expect relief also in connection with the unemployment, pension and nursing care insurances are due on 27 March 2020. They are collected by the statutory health insurance as the compentent collection authority. In a circular dated 24 March 2020, the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds [Spitzenverband der Gesetzlichen Krankenversicherung - GKV] now provides information from the perspective of social security law relating to the relief options available.

Their purpose is to give businesses and self-employed persons clearly facing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 crisis time to pay social security contributions at a later point in time. However, this is possible only under certain conditions. The relief measure is limited in time and is already put into practice by the individual health insurances.
