Grant Thornton advises the shareholders of Munich Electrification on the investment by private equity firm Ardian

Düsseldorf, 27 July 2026

The shareholders of Munich Electrification GmbH are selling their majority stake in the Munich-based provider of battery management systems, sensor technology, and software for electric mobility to the private equity investor Ardian. The existing management team will hold a stake in the company alongside Ardian and the founders. Through this investment, Ardian is providing Munich Electrification GmbH with additional capital to help the company achieve its strategic goals more quickly and drive expansion into existing and adjacent markets such as data centers, mobile machinery, automation, and robotics. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval.

An interdisciplinary team from Grant Thornton in Germany, led by partners Martin Festerling (Deal Advisory) and Dr. Stefan Hahn (Transaction Tax), provided comprehensive advice to the shareholders regarding the sale. In particular, the team assisted with the preparation of a financial and tax fact book in anticipation of the sale process and also provided advice on financial and tax matters related to the transaction.

Munich Electrification GmbH was founded in 2014 and currently employs approximately 300 people. The company develops and supplies battery management systems (BMS), electronic, control, and sensor components, as well as software, primarily for applications in electric mobility and stationary battery energy storage systems (BESS). All systems are developed entirely in Munich, while series production takes place in collaboration with partners in Europe.

Ardian is one of the world’s leading independent investment firms, headquartered in France. As a globally positioned private marketsfirm, Ardian is represented worldwide with 22 offices and more than 350 investment experts, managing or advising on assets totaling approximately 200 billion U.S. dollars for more than 1,920 clients in the areas of private equity, real assets, and credit.
