Cyber-attack on Lippe hospital successfully fought off

THE JOB
Our job was to aid a large hospital group in dealing with a massive cyber-attack. IT had partially collapsed due to an illegal external hack.
OUR TASK
Within a few hours of the attack becoming known, we were tasked with coordinating and conducting the initial countermeasures together with the IT department.
SOLUTION
During the operation at Lippe hospital, the Grant Thornton taskforce utilised various forensic techniques to trace the origin of the cyber-attack and the methods used. Additionally, in close cooperation with the authorities, crisis management developed close communication with the blackmailers and was eventually able to convince them to hand over the decryptor without paying a ransom.
RESULT
The data to decrypt the system were handed over by the blackmailers. The IT systems are now running again securely.
