Grant Thornton advises the Sogestran Group

Düsseldorf, 12 May 2025 

The French Sogestran Group has retroactively taken over as of 1 January 2025 the Duisburg shipping company Reederei Jaegers, which specialises in transporting bulk products in inland shipping. This transaction makes the Sogestran Group the European market leader among inland shipping companies for liquid bulk goods, with a significant presence on the major European waterways. This includes over 200 units (motorised craft, pushers and lighters) and more than 500 crew.

An interdisciplinary team of experts from Grant Thornton Germany led by Stefan Blum and Dennis Kessel (transaction support) and Dr Stefan Hahn (tax due diligence) supported the Sogestran Group with comprehensive financial due diligence, financial modelling  and valuation support, tax due diligence and M&A advisory (support with negotiations) as well as SPA advice for the transaction. Thanks to their proven expertise with inland shipping, the interdisciplinary team was able to master the particular challenges of this international transaction and thereby made a decisive contribution to its success.

The Sogestran Group (based in Le Havre in France) specialises in the inland and maritime transport of complex and high-value goods and in industrial logistics. The Group has its own inland and maritime fleets and industrial warehousing. It designs, builds, operates, maintains and mans its own inland and maritime craft.

Reederei Jaegers is a shipping company specialising in inland shipping that offers continuous transport solutions all the way from the North Sea to the Black Sea. Since it was founded in 1919, the shipping company has been distinguished for safety, quality and reliability. It ensures that various goods such as petrol, middle distillates, heavy fuel and chemicals are transported safely and reliably.
